Equifax plans adaptive verification upgrade for early 2027
Equifax’s October 13 announcement combines instant and additional verification services in a planned workflow. Lenders still need to test coverage, timing and pricing against their own files.

Equifax announced on October 13 that it expects to make Mortgage Ultimate with adaptive automation available in early 2027. The planned upgrade would combine automated income and employment verification from The Work Number with Network Verification Services, according to the company’s announcement.
The news is the announced automation upgrade, not the first appearance of the Mortgage Ultimate name. For lender operations teams, the timely question is whether a combined process could reduce the separate orders and follow-up work involved in verifying a borrower’s income. The announcement is a planning input, not evidence that the new workflow is already available.
What the planned service includes
Equifax says the package will include an initial verification of income and up to three subsequent income or employment updates during a 90-day window. The Work Number supplies instant verifications; Network Verification Services provides additional coverage when needed.
The company describes a single-cost model and says lenders will be charged only when the initial verification order returns data. It did not publish a specific price in the announcement.
Equifax also reports a 95% fulfillment rate for initial income requests, with 72% fulfilled instantly and 90% within 48 hours or less after orders transition to the additional service. These are the vendor’s reported performance figures, not independently verified results for every lender or every borrower.
Coverage is not the same as an underwriting decision
A verification response supplies information used in a loan file. It does not, by itself, establish that all underwriting requirements have been met or that a loan will close. Lenders still need to evaluate whether the returned information is sufficient and current for the transaction.
Likewise, “up to three” updates is an allowance, not an announced schedule requiring three checks at evenly spaced dates. An operations team should distinguish what is included in a package from when a particular loan needs another check.
Questions worth resolving before rollout
Lenders considering the upgrade can ask Equifax for the expected implementation timetable, integration requirements, the scope of a billable response and the treatment of requests that need follow-up. A pilot should distinguish instant results from completed manual work and compare like-for-like loan files.
For loan officers, the practical message is narrower than a promise of faster closings: a planned verification service may change how information is obtained, but borrowers should continue responding promptly to their lender’s document requests. Neither the announced coverage figures nor an early-2027 target guarantees a particular borrower’s approval, closing date or savings.
