Fairway Home Mortgage Adds VantageScore 4.0 for Mortgage Lending

VantageScore says Fairway has implemented its 4.0 credit model. Borrowers should still ask which loan programs and investors accept it.

Fairway Home Mortgage has implemented the VantageScore 4.0 credit scoring model, VantageScore announced on Oct. 13, 2026 (VantageScore release). The announcement came from the score developer, not from a regulator.

Stacey M. Sprain, Fairway's senior vice president of credit support and vendor relations, said in the release that the model gives the lender another tool to understand borrowers' financial profiles.

What the model is

VantageScore says its 4.0 model uses trended credit data, which looks at how balances and payments change over time rather than a single snapshot. The score is distributed by the three national credit bureaus and supported by several mortgage technology vendors, according to the release.

What it does not mean

A new score option is not an underwriting waiver. Whether a specific loan can use VantageScore 4.0 depends on the program and on the investor or agency that buys or insures it. The release does not show that any borrower will be approved, or pay less, because of the change.

Questions to ask

Borrowers who have thin or recently rebuilt credit files can ask a Fairway loan officer which products accept the score, whether both models are pulled, and how the lender chooses which score to use.

Loan officers at other lenders can watch for similar adoption and for investor guidance, since product eligibility, not the score alone, determines who qualifies.
