Happy Birthday, Anthony Frederick: Celebrating 28 Years of Leadership at UWM

Mortgage.News celebrates UWM Senior Vice President of Sales Anthony Frederick on his birthday, recognizing his remarkable 28-year journey from the mailroom to senior leadership and his lasting impact on UWM, its sales team and the wholesale mortgage community.

From the Mailroom to Senior VP: Celebrating UWM’s Anthony Frederick on His Birthday

PONTIAC, Mich. — Happy birthday to Anthony Frederick, senior vice president of sales at United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM), whose 28-year career with the organization has taken him from the mailroom to one of its senior sales leadership positions.

For Frederick, the milestone is about more than another birthday. It is also an opportunity to recognize a career built over nearly three decades, during which he has become a longtime leader, coach and advocate for the wholesale mortgage channel.

Frederick started with the organization that would become UWM in 1998, beginning in the mailroom before working his way up to senior vice president of sales. Today, he helps lead UWM’s sales team, with a focus on strengthening relationships with independent mortgage brokers nationwide, coaching account executives and understanding the challenges brokers face.

28 Years of Growing With UWM

Frederick’s career trajectory stands out in an industry where leadership teams and companies can change quickly.

Rather than joining the organization as an established executive, he built his career from the ground up. His 1998 start also came at a pivotal point in the company’s history. UWM Holdings says the business was founded as Shore Mortgage in 1986, transitioned to correspondent lending in 1998 and established United Wholesale Mortgage as its wholesale lending arm in 2001.

That means Frederick has had a front-row seat to nearly the entire evolution of what became UWM’s wholesale operation.

UWM continues to identify Frederick as part of its senior leadership. In a 2026 company feature marking UWM’s 40th anniversary, Frederick was identified as senior vice president of sales alongside other members of the lender’s leadership team. His LinkedIn profile also reflects his current role and long tenure with the company.

His longevity means Frederick has also worked through dramatically different mortgage cycles — housing booms, the financial crisis, historically low-rate refinancing waves and the higher-rate purchase market that followed.

Through those changes, one theme has remained central to his role: supporting the sales professionals who work with independent mortgage brokers.

A Leadership Style Built Around Effort

Frederick has also received national recognition for his leadership.

HousingWire named him a 2021 Vanguard, recognizing executives for leadership in the housing and mortgage industries. The publication highlighted Frederick’s rise from the mailroom to senior vice president of sales and his role in leading and developing UWM’s sales organization. At the time, HousingWire reported that he led a team of nearly 800 sales team members.

Frederick summed up his approach to success in that profile with a message centered on effort.

“If I was going to be one of the best, I was going to have to absolutely dominate from an effort standpoint.”

That mentality has become closely associated with Frederick’s reputation at UWM.

After Frederick received the Vanguard recognition, UWM President and CEO Mat Ishbia publicly praised his more than two decades with the company, pointing to Frederick’s passion, loyalty and positive impact on UWM’s team and the mortgage industry.

The company has continued recognizing his leadership. Frederick was among UWM’s 2025 MVP Pillar Award winners on the sales leadership team, with UWM crediting the group for its positivity, resilience and leadership.

Developing the Next Generation of Leaders

Frederick’s influence at UWM extends beyond his title.

UWM’s own description of Frederick emphasizes coaching account executives and helping people around him succeed, while HousingWire previously highlighted his focus on developing team members both personally and professionally.

UWM also featured Frederick in imagery accompanying a 2026 article on career coaching and professional development, identifying him as senior vice president of UWM sales while coaching team members on learning resources and leadership opportunities.

That role carries particular weight given Frederick’s own path through the organization. Someone who began in the mailroom in 1998 is now in a position to coach people who may themselves be at the beginning of long careers.

It is a career arc that reinforces a simple idea in professional development: where someone starts does not have to determine where they finish.

Happy Birthday, Anthony

After 28 years with the organization, Frederick has watched it grow from a much smaller mortgage operation into the nation’s largest mortgage lender.

According to UWM Holdings’ 2026 proxy statement, UWM finished 2025 as the No. 1 wholesale mortgage lender in the U.S. by closed loan volume for the 11th consecutive year and remained the No. 1 overall mortgage lender for the fourth consecutive year. Frederick has served in sales leadership during a significant portion of that growth.

But longevity alone does not tell the entire story.

From starting in the mailroom to reaching senior leadership, earning industry recognition and helping develop UWM’s sales organization, Frederick has built a career around effort, relationships and a long-term commitment to the wholesale mortgage channel.

So today, Mortgage.News is giving a well-deserved birthday shoutout to Anthony Frederick. Happy birthday — and congratulations on 28 years of making an impact at UWM and across the wholesale mortgage community.
